Partnerships in ActionHere are just a few of the exciting ways we're seeing God use the partnerships we've built with community, ministry and corporate organizations to help those in need in Southern California and around the world.Every Friday, five to eight young men from Teen Challenge of Santa Ana show up at our warehouse and volunteer six hours of their time to help Mariners Resources with heavy lifting, trash runs and moving assistance. We put together a discipleship/mentoring/ job-skills-training program for these Teen Challenge volunteers and have built wonderful relationships with this ministry partner. United Community Outreach, located in south Orange County, arrives at the Mariners Resources warehouse each week with their 24-foot truck and picks up items they re-donate to the poor and needy in some of Orange County's inland and beach communities. They provide volunteer labor at our warehouse in exchange for the goods they receive. SPIN (Serving People in Need), a longstanding nonprofit in Costa Mesa, has proven very helpful in guiding Mariners Resources in the area of partnerships. We've been able to help them with donated items such as office equipment, toiletries and clothing and they've helped us standardize our "Volunteer for Clothes" referral system. Another of our highly valued community partners is Goodwill Industries of Orange County. They have been an ongoing source of guidance and support as we've moved MarinersResources.org from its infancy stage into a well-functioning donation and distribution operation. Goodwill provided pallets, Gaylord boxes and tractor trailer trucks for both of the "Pack-It and Park-It" events we've held at Mariners. We recycle all of our unwanted electronics and computer monitors through them every two weeks. RIA Corporation provides a beautiful example of the collaborative efforts between ministry and commerce. RIA chose MarinersResources.org as one of four local nonprofits they encourage their 500+ employees to volunteer with. And the proof is in the pudding. Every Monday and Friday during the months of October and November, RIA Corporation sends employees to Mariners Resources to volunteer for a full day. They refer to this as a "Day of Care." Habitat for Humanity saw a recent write-up about MarinersResources.org in the Orange County Register and approached us about building a partnership. They give us furniture items they can't sell and we give them building products that are difficult for us to sell. They pick up building products from our Mariners referrals and Mariners Resources get 50% of the proceeds minus shipping costs. These are only a few of the strategic partnerships we've forged over the past 18 months of operation. As our doors remain open and we connect with new community and ministry partners, we are confident that God will bless our collaborative efforts.
