| Who We Are |
Who We AreMarinersResources.org is an extraordinary example of faith-based social entrepreneurism . . . where business and ministry intersects to benefit those in need. This resource program is a ministry of Mariners Church, in Irvine, CA, and specializes in linking quality surplus resources with corporate and individual donors throughout Southern California with community organizations and individuals in need. Envisioned as a reproducible model of church-community partnerships, MarinersResources.org receives thousands of donated items every week in its 12,000-square-foot Santa Ana warehouse. Within 7-10 days of receipt, items are sorted, repaired as necessary, and re-donated to dozens of community organizations and thousands of individuals. In some cases, donated items are sold on Craigslist, eBay or the e-commerce site of MarinersResources.org, with the proceeds going to church-supported local community and global outreach programs. 30% of all donated items are sold through online sales to cover the operating costs of MarinersResources.org and to funnel funds back into the outreach ministries of Mariners Church. The remaining 70% of donations are re-donated strategically back into the community. In our first year, MarinersResources.org re-donated $350,000 worth of goods to people in need through local churches, non-profits, local and global ministries, and community service organizations. All of this is accomplished through a staff of three full-time employees and an army of 50-75 volunteers a week. |
